NEW CREW PROGRAM -- SIGN UP NOW!
The Rendezvous Yacht Club will again be holding a two day course for new sailors. Mark your calendars & come learn to sail!
The purpose of our new crew program is to improve RYC Wednesday night and Saturday racing by having participating boats adequately crewed with competent sailors. Our Crew Program will provide new members an opportunity to learn sailing in a safe and fun atmosphere. Experienced captains share their experiences and help participants gain the basic sailing skills needed to crew during our weekly races. We start each day with classroom instruction followed by practicing on the water aboard members' sailboats.
A maximum of 12 people will be accepted to enroll in the program so get your registration in early! The program is intended for adults but we will accept a teenage son or daughter for inclusion with enrollment of an adult participant.
When: Saturday & Sunday, June 21 & 22
Cost: $35/participant includes 2 days of instruction, training booklet, and one year membership in RYC
Location: La Place Rendezvous Hotel, Rainy Lake, Fort Frances, Ontario.
Classroom topics:
Boat Safety
– boating safety rules and required equipment
Sail Trim – how a sailboat works and maneuvers
Navigation – basic map reading & the buoy navigation system on Rainy Lake
Knot Craft – beginning sailing knots including the bowline and how to belay a cleat
Boat Orientation -- general boating terms, identification, how to get around on the boat
Race Formats – basic race rules and committee boat operations
Participants need to bring a comfortable fitting PFD, clothing suitable for physical activity and for possible inclement weather. Closed toed shoes recommended – boat owners would prefer non-marking soles. Packing a small lunch and beverage is also advisable.
